Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing and Spoiler Windshield on a Sportster

Memphis Shades BatwingI’ts getting cold around here, so I decided to try one of the Memphis Shades Quick Release Batwing Fairings on my 2004 Sportster.  First, I had to relocate the turn signals to the lower triple tree. After that it took me over an hour to mount the Batwing for the first time. The instructions said (reading them and trying to follow them was probably where I went wrong) to mount the clamps on the forks, then put the brackets on the Fairing, and finally to snap the brackets (with the Fairing attached) into the clamps on the forks. I suppose there are people who could do it that way, but it wasn’t working for me.  I finally put the clamps on the forks, snapped the brackets into the fork clamps, and then just hung the Fairing on the brackets that were already on the forks. Now that was easy!Memphis Shades Batwing side view
Now that the Batwing is installed, I love it. It was 32 degrees this morning and my hands and upper body were totally happy on my hour-long ride to work. I should have bought a taller shield, however. I purchased the 6.5″ Spoiler Windshield, figuring it would be tall enough for me as I’m only 5’8″ tall. It’s just fine on the back roads but when I get up to Interstate speeds the wind buffets the very top of my helmet.
Best of all, the Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing and Spoiler Windshield look pretty darn good on my Sportster. Just wait ’til I get everything painted to match!Memphis Shades Batwing rider view
