Teutul, in a press conference at the Tucker Rocky dealer show, said he hopes to work with Biker’s Choice in the future to build parts and accessories for the distributor. More immediately, his first bike for the TV series will feature parts and accessories from Biker’s Choice.

The bike will be unveiled at Sturgis in August.

“This is an exciting new adventure for Biker’s Choice and we are proud to have Paul Jr. and his team join the Biker’s Choice crew,” Johnson said.

The new TLC series, scheduled to air in August pits father against son — Teutul Jr. is now located in a shop a stone’s throw (his words!) from the old Orange County Choppers headquarters. A press release about the show says the following, “Once partners, they are now fierce competitors at contending motorcycle shops.”

The show is said to capture the rivalry between father and son with en extra twist, son is bringing back former OCC employees his brother Mikey, Vinnie DiMartino, Robert “Nub” Colard and Joe Puliafico.

This 19 inch wheel looks as good as a 21 but its much stronger

The first time, the change was motivated by economics. A customer had a Sportster Custom which, of course, had a 21 inch laced front wheel right from the factory. Many years and many miles of rough roads and potholes had taken their toll on the front wheel. Llots of the spokes were loose and the rim looked more like an octagon than a circle. To top it off, the front tire was nearly bald.

 The cheapest way to go was a new(er), gently used 19 inch cast front wheel from Harley-Davidson, which we picked up for less than two hundred dollars. We installed a new Metzeler ME880 tire, and returned the motorcycle to the customer. We hoped for a more sturdy front wheel, but we got much more. The customer was back in a couple of days. “What did you really do to my bike?” she asked. “It feels lighter. It turns easier, it tracks better, it’s totally happy going around corners…it even stops better. Really, what did you do???”

 Honestly, all we had done was to replace that skinny 21” laced wheel with a nice, sturdy, tubeless 19” front wheel. Her old tire was a 21” Metzeler; we installed a new 19” Metzeler to go with the 19” wheel. The only difference was the wheel itself, but dropping 2 inches of diameter and picking up a little bit of width really transformed the handling of that Sportster.

 Since then, we have converted three more Sportster Customs from 21” front wheels to 19” (upgrading them from Dunlop to Metzeler in the process) and the customers are raving about the transformation of their rides. “You told me it would be great,” said one of our more recent ‘converts,’ “but it’s like a whole new motorcycle. It feels better now than it did when it was new.”

 It’s very hard to believe, I know, but having ridden “before” and “after” bikes myself I can testify that it’s true. A Sportster with a 19 inch cast front wheel handles much better than one with a laced 21 inch front wheel. And a 19 inch front wheel is going to hold up much better to the slings and potholes of outrageous fortune (or our outrageous roads). With that meatier tire and a sturdier construction, it would take one heck of a whack to damage a typical cast 19 inch wheel.

 ”Oh,” they cry, “but a 19 inch front wheel is so ugly! The 21 looks so much better!” Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if you stop by our store you can have a look at Chuck’s Sportster, which is graced with a beautiful, chromed, 19 inch billet wheel. It looks as good as a 21, but it has the strength of a 19.

 If you just want to sit on the curb and look at your Sportster, fine. Keep that “pretty” 21. But if you want to ride the beast, consider upgrading to a 19. The view from the saddle is much better than the view from the curb any day!

Harley issued the following statement: “A Buell Lightning XB12Scg rolled off the company’s East Troy, Wis., assembly line, the last of the 136,923 motorcycles built in the company’s 26 years of operation.

“Parent Harley-Davidson announced on Oct. 15 that the Buell lineup of motorcycles would be discontinued effective Dec. 18, 2009. Buell motorcycles will continue to be sold through existing dealers until inventory is depleted.”

After a dreadful third quarter financial result by the company Harley-Davidson pulls the plug on Buell. With sales down and the recession hitting especially hard to the manufacture. Harley had to decide which division to keep between MV Agusta and Buell. As you see it Harley believes that the money and market will stay behind MV Agusta and Buell is out on the street.

We are sad to see any manufacture go out of business but Buell really brought a small business attitude to the table and a lot of inovation (Fuel tank in the frame, Periemeter Brakes, and much more). We are hoping a private company will step up and try to buy the debt and company away from Harley and try to revive the company in a couple years time.

We attended Biketoberfest last year 2008 when we won the Rats Hole Bike Show with our Dragonflyroad warrior. We are not showing any bikes this year we are just going to ride and have fun we need a break after a hard summer at the shop.

History of Biketoberfest

Biketoberfest ’s Birthmother– Janet Kersey, a Daytona Beach native and the official “The Birthmother of Biketoberfest®” - was hired as the director of tourism events by the DBACVB to create new festivals and events that would attract visitors during the off-season periods. Her first assignment was to create a special event, similar to the ever-popular Bike Week, centered around the American Motorcycle Association’s annual fall races held each October at Daytona International Speedway. This first event, originally named “The Daytona Fall Tour,” was held on October 16-18, 1992.
The Daytona Fall Tour featured a 125-mile scenic touring ride through VolusiaCounty, bike shows, races at Daytona International Speedway and Bikefest — a series of activities offered by Main Street merchants. The motorcycling festival attracted 5,000 new visitors, mostly from the Florida market, to the Daytona Beach area.
Biketoberfest Is Born– The success of the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Daytona Fall Tour attracted increased interest from local merchants and the surrounding community. In 1993, local companies — such as The News-Journal Corporation, Daytona International Speedway and Daytona Harley-Davidson — sponsored concerts, trade shows, and other activities. Under the CVB’s direction, the Biketoberfest Development Committee was established and as a result, the number of activities increased to 40 in a three-day time span.

That year, the event’s name also changed from The Daytona Fall Tour to the newly created Biketoberfest. The new name became popular domestically and internationally, especially among motorcycle enthusiasts in Germany where the Oktoberfest celebration is held nationwide. The CVB’s London office began a marketing campaign aimed at drawing European bikers who wanted to escape Europe’s winter weather and enjoy a fun-filled Florida holiday.
Biketoberfest 1993drew 15,000 new visitors and generated more than $4.6 million dollars for the Daytona Beach area. In 1993 the CVB registered the name Biketoberfest® with the US Trademark office, marking it the first US trademark registered motorcycle event in the country. The CVB has since actively pursued any violations and maintains all legal rights under the US Trademark laws.
Growth Spurt (1994-1997)– Biketoberfest 1994 featured 80 countywide activities over a four-day period, attracting about 25,000 new visitors from Florida, the eastern and western United States, and Canada. Those visitors generated an estimated $4.6 million impact.
The number of countywide activities during Biketoberfest 1995 grew to more than 150. Approximately 43,000 visitors from the United States, Canada, and Europe visited the area during the motorcycle festival. The total economic impact was $20.75 million, prompting a further expansion of the event in 1996.
Biketoberfest 1996expanded to more than 300 activities in two counties –Volusia and St. Johns. Also that year, the tourism bureau launched a Web page for the event.
Biketoberfest 1997 was named one of the top 25 events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society. It had an attendance of approximately 60,000. The event generated an economic impact of $32 million.
Biketoberfest 1998- With the addition of the NASCAR Pepsi 400 to the October schedule of events, Biketoberfest1998 was filled with activities that the entire family could enjoy. Returning activities included the Fall Cycle Scene Championship Cup Series and The Daytona Beach Harley-Davidson Seafood Festival. There was also a special appearance by legendary daredevil Evel Knievel.
Also new to the line-up was the “Tuesday Night Biketoberfest Internet Chat” hosted by the CVB. The chat — held every Tuesday night leading up to Biketoberfest — gave visitors a chance to ask questions and find out up-to-the-minute information about the event. Lucky participants even got the chance to “chat” with a celebrity.
Biketoberfest 1999- Once again, Biketoberfest was named one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events. Approximately 75,000 motorcycle enthusiasts attended the event. On the Internet, the official event Web site settled into its permanent home at www.biketoberfest.org and hosted Easy Rider star Peter Fonda online.

Biketoberfest 2000- Biketoberfest2000 included several new activities, the most ambitious being the Daytona Harley-Davidson Thunder Over Dixie 2000. This touring event and concert benefited the Boggy Creek Gang Camp — a year-round camping facility for chronically ill children and their families.
Also that year, the BiketoberfestDevelopment Committee expanded its rider safety campaign. Done in conjunction with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the campaign included posters and radio public service announcements. In addition, the campaign was promoted on the official Biketoberfest Web site. The Biketoberfest Web site included rider safety tips, information on the city’s code of conduct and a link to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Web site. The committee also continued its three-year-old “Please Ride Quietly” campaign which reminded visitors and residents to ride without excessive revving or roaring of engines, especially after 11 p.m.
Biketoberfest 2001- The Daytona Beach area’s first post-September 11 tourism event, Biketoberfest2001 attracted motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout the U.S. who proudly displayed their US patriotism. The event was also host to a record 8 major fundraising campaigns by area non-profit organizations, including Easter Seals of Volusia and FlaglerCounties, the United Way of Volusia- Flagler Counties, the FloridaLionsConklinCenters for the Blind and the Zangi Grotto Masonic lodge. That year, Biketoberfest was designated a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event for October 2001.
Biketoberfest 2002- Biketoberfestcelebrated its tenth anniversary during the 2002 festivities. In commemoration of this milestone, the Convention and Visitors Bureau created and distributed the event’s official tenth anniversary poster at local visitor information centers. In addition, Main Street jeweler Humphreys & Son sold limited edition commemorative Biketoberfest coins. Only 500 of the pure silver coins were minted.
Biketoberfest 2003- The eleventh annual Biketoberfestevent was a celebrity-studded affair that featured appearances by The Teutel Family — stars of the popular Discovery Channel series American Chopper — and Jesse James — star of the cable network’s Monster Garage program. The 2003 event also marked the debut of the official Biketoberfest Pocket Guide and merchandise line. In addition, the popular festival was selected as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events for the month of October 2003.

Biketoberfest 2004  – Even  an historic hurricane season in August and September couldn’t stop the momentum of Biketoberfest®. The Daytona Beach Area CVB launched a colorful new web site at www.biketoberfest.org, where visitors can book rooms and find out about the latest events. Biketoberfest2004 was enhanced with early activities the weekend before, such as the first Stars and Stripes Weekend on Main Street.The event was named as a Top 20 event by the Southeast Tourism Society and also won three Kaleidoscope awards from the Southeast Chapter of the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA). Although there was no racing at the Daytona International Speedway because of infield construction, the first Buffalo Chip event was held there.

Biketoberfest 2005  – The 13^th edition of Biketoberfestcame and went like a typical teenager – unpredictable and highly dramatic! With Wilma lingering south for the entire four days of the event, crowds were lighter than anticipated. Visitors who were here for the festival reported having a great time throughout the event, however. One major highlight was the grand opening of Destination Daytona, a 109,000 square food Harley Davidson dealership which will welcome bikers year-round. Inside the complex the Daytona Beach Area CVB opened an ‘OfficialWelcomeCenter.’

Biketoberfest 2006  – Budweiser may be the king of beers, but in 2006 it was the king of Biketoberfest, joining the event lineup as the newest promotional partner – signing a one year agreement to be the ‘Official Beer of Biketoberfest !’ The new partner presented at many activities throughout the 14^thweekend including the new Budweiser Cool Your Pipes Zone at the Daytona International Speedway. The Speedway kicked it up a notch with more displays, live entertainment, food and apparel vendors at its KickstandCity, in addition to its Fall Cycle Scene races. The fall event continues to spread throughout a countywide area, with bikers hanging out at the traditional hot spots of Main Street, Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard, Gilly’s Pub 44 and all the great places on US Highway 1. But they are also enjoying areas farther away, like Destination Daytona and the Rajun Cajun event at InletHarbor in Ponce Inlet. Ride on!

Biketoberfest 2007 -Beautiful fall weather was the order of the day as over 175,000 bikers showed up for this top rated US Rally. It was a picture perfect time with folks arriving from all across the US called by the open road and the beautiful, sunny weather and cool fall breezes Florida is famous for. You could literally walk down the street and see license plates from every state. New to the event line up was a great new promotional partner State Farm of Florida! Yes those friendly guys and gals were out and about all weekend with visitors having the time of their lives. Additionally we added the first ever (at any rally we’re told) Official Tatoo of the event logo. At Daytona International Speedway they opened the doors to free access to the races, fan zones and added a new event called the Monster Mile where you could actually ride your own bike around this World Famous Speedway. Additionally the newly re-vamed Daytona 500 Experience attraction was hosting an open house, showcasing all the new attraction updates and activities for visitors for FREE. Destination Daytona’s new pavillian was rocking as well with a live performance by ……. Area events continued to expand throughout the entire County of Volusia too with over 100 different locations adding on site events, live entertainment and fun for participants of all ages. Riding was at a premium and many folks had the opportunity to see the treasured backroads known mostly by the locals. It was great riding, beautiful bikes and lots of new friendships made as this version of the event goes down in the history books as a perfect ending to the riding season.

Under the new guidelines, businesses putting on outdoor events with more than 500 people in unincorporated Horry County would need to pay a $250 application fee and $100 per day of the event to obtain a special-event permit. Fees would be waived for nonprofit groups. The county now charges a $25 application fee.

Some residents hoped that better regulation over outdoor events would help resolve complaints about noise, traffic and rude behavior during the Harley-Davidson spring rally and the Atlantic Beach Bikefest, which are both held in May and attract about 250,000 people each to the area.

The regulations have already received the first of three required votes from the council. Thursday’s meeting was a subcommittee of the council where tweaks, such as the nonprofit exemption, were made to the rules.

The regulations would apply to all groups throughout the year, not just during bike rallies. The current definition of a special event is vague, and it is not always clear which events need a permit. Public Safety Director Paul Whitten said new regulations should clarify that.

The discussion over outdoor events is the county’s latest attempt to address residents’ concerns over the motorcycle rallies. The council is also thinking about restricting where vendors can be located, and Myrtle Beach passed a set of ordinances last year aimed at eliminating the rallies.

Parades, and sporting events with more than 4,000 attendees that need temporary structures, will also need a special-event permit under the new regulations. Permits would be valid for five days.

Even if attendance is below 500, outdoor events that require an excessive police presence or allow drinking or wet T-shirt contests, pudding wrestling or burn-out pits would also need a permit.

County officials said their objective is not to discourage outdoor events but to make sure they are policed properly and are safe for the community. Deputy County Attorney Arrigo Carotti said he believes the new rules would withstand a court challenge because it treats everybody the same.

“Our intent here is not to bog people down in paperwork and aggravate them in what they have to do and putting these nitpicky requirements on them,” said Councilman Bob Grabowski, chairman of the public safety committee, which met Thursday.

Possible penalties for unpermitted events include a small fine, paying for police officers that were required to manage the event and losing a business license, Carotti said. Unpermitted events could be shut down.

Previously, special-event permits were approved by the council, but the new regulations would make Whitten, as public safety director, the person responsible for the decision. It would be based on an applicant’s plans for safety, lighting and other factors, and an appeal can be made to the county administrator.

The company had a fourth-quarter loss of 41.65 billion yen ($467 million) compared with a net income of 3.73 billion yen in the year-earlier period. Bloomberg calculated the loss from preliminary full-year figures released by the company today.

Yamaha, the maker of Royal Star Venture motorcycles, lost customers in North America and Europe as people pared consumption of leisure goods amid the credit crisis and falling home values. The company will cut salaries of executives by as much as 20 percent from February to December.

Full-year net income fell 98 percent to 1.5 billion yen compared with 71.2 billion yen in 2007, the company said in a preliminary earnings report today. Sales dropped 9 percent to 1.6 trillion yen.

The company, which gets 90 percent of its revenue outside of Japan, was also hurt by the stronger yen. The yen gained 17 percent against the U.S. dollar in the fourth quarter, eroding the value of overseas sales.

Yamaha’s shares were little changed at 880 yen at the close of trading in Tokyo today. The stock has dropped 5.6 percent so far this year.
